Worcester Warriors players have been left in Illusion after receiving conflicting information over whether they can leave the stricken club immediately.
When the government put the club into administration, the players were expecting that they were free to leave the club, but the Rugby Players’ Association informed the squad they were still under contract.
The player of Worcester had initially been told that if the club enters administration, you can immediately end your contract with the club. When on Monday, the club was put into administration and suspended from all competitions, the door appeared open for the players to leave.
According to the player’s contract with WRFC Trading Limited, to leave immediately, the players have to wait to learn if they will be paid September’s wages on Friday.
If they will not be paid, they can give 14 days notice of their intention to leave, and by rules, they would be compelled to wait another fortnight before doing so.
The RPA sent an email to players, in which it said the RFU has now confirmed that the company you are contracted to has not entered into administration.
Moreover, they said that WRFC Trading Limited has entered into administration, which is a different company. This news will be frustrating, but we will be speaking with all stakeholders to urge them to find a reasonable solution for the players as soon as possible, they said.
The players are in limbo because of confusion over contracts. As a result, some players have returned to their hometowns, while others are training in groups away from Sixways.
